Who we are

My name is Kate Hill and I have been a registered nurse for 15 years, specializing in the care of ostomy patients.

The reason I waited so long to launch this company is because , ideally, I wanted insurances to pay for these services so that patients would not have to pay out of pocket.

Unfortunately, despite my efforts, I have not been able to convince insurance companies to cover even part of my services outside of the hospital setting.

Ultimately, I decided to launch the company anyway, deciding that at least offering access to help would be better than leaving people with nowhere to turn for help. I will continue to advocate for the importance of these types of services to insurance companies so that hopefully one day they will be covered, as they should be.

My journey began as a homecare nurse in the community. This is whe I realized the immense need to specialized ostomy care and how few services were available to patients who were struggling. This prompted me to acquire my wound, ostomy, and continence certification from the Wound Ostomy Continence Nursing Certification Board.

I truly enjoyed working with patients in the community but I wanted to reach an even wider population of patients that I could help so I eventually then came to work in several prominent Boston hospitals.

In launching The Bag Lady Co., I wanted to be able to reach more patients that may be out in their own communities searching for help with their ostomy. Maybe they live far away from a clinic or hospital and are searching for answers to ostomy leakage problems. Maybe they are having visiting nurses in their home to help them but do not have access to a specialized ostomy nurse.

My goal is to bridge that gap for people and to help as many people as I can.
